Over the past several months, the Harvard Glee Club Foundation’s Communication’s Task Force has been hard at work in updating the format and content of the Foundation’s website to provide alumni and other friends of the Glee Club and Foundation with more timely and exciting content. One of the many new features in the website is an “Around the Yard” page which will include articles about goings-on at Harvard today beyond the work of the Glee Club and other Harvard Choruses.

The “Around the Yard” page currently highlights a recent article from the Harvard Gazette on the Harvard Jazz Band’s recent tour of Cuba. With interactive features like clips of the Jazz Band’s tour performances, the article provides a great look into the endeavors of one of the Glee Club’s many fellow musical groups on campus. And there’s even an Glee Club connection: junior John Miller, a bass in the Glee Club, also plays saxophone for the jazz bands and is quoted in the article.

Especially of interest to our alums will be the article’s emphasis on the musical and personal enrichment offered by the touring experience:  "Appreciating Cuban music, its vast diversity, and how deeply it is sewn into the social and political fabric of the country was at the heart of the Harvard band’s trip. The fast-paced, eight-day musical adventure in early June marked the group’s first tour in 25 years, and Terry, a saxophonist and chekeré player who joined the faculty in 2015, organized an itinerary not only to showcase Cuba’s musical vibrancy, but also to illuminate recent efforts to rescue and preserve age-old traditions."
