Each year, men and women from the three Holden Choruses (Harvard Glee Club, Radcliffe Choral Society, Harvard-Radcliffe Collegium Musicum) have an opportunity to receive scholarships for private voice instruction. In the spring, representatives from the program present a Holden Voice Program Recital to showcase the work they have been doing in their lessons.

Congratulations to this year’s performers:

  • John Sullivan, piano/accompanist
  • Paige Newquist ’14, soprano
  • Andrew Hausmann ’15, tenor
  • Ernie Mitchell GSAS, tenor
  • William Horton ’15, tenor
  • Anne Buckle HGSE, mezzo-soprano
  • Stephanie Havens ’14, soprano

Special thanks to the voice instructors teaching lessons in the program this year, including:  Michael Barrett, Charles Blandy, Christopher Charig, Thomas Jones, Frank Kelley, Jennifer Sgroe, Sonja Tengblad, Marsha Vleck,  Sarah Whitten, and Donald Wilkinson. Deepest gratitude also to the Holden Voice Program’s primary benefactors, Warren Pyle and Lisl Urban.

Harvard Director of Choral Activities, Andrew Clark, offered a warm welcome and thanked the performers for participating in this year's Holden Voice Program Spring Recital

Pianist John Sullivan opened the program with the Prelude and Fugue in E Major, BWV 878 of J.S. Bach before accompanying all the singers.

Paige Newquist performed "Deh vieni, non tardar" from Le nozze di Figaro, K. 492 of W. A. Mozart.

Andrew Hausman presented two pieces from Franz Schubert's Vier Canzonen, D. 688: "Da quel sembiante appresi" and "Mio ben ricordati."

Continuing with the Schubert theme, Ernie Mitchell performed Schubert's "Wehmut," D. 772.

Rounding out the Schubert section, William Horton presented "Staendchen" from Schwanegesang, D. 957 and "Pause" from Die Schoene Muellerin, D. 795.

Returning to the world of opera, Anne Buckle entertained with the "Habanera" from Bizet's Carmen, "L'amour est un oiseau rebelle."

Stephanie Havens wrapped up the program with "Steal me, sweet thief" from Gian Carlo Menotti's opera, The Old Maid and the Thief

Performers received a hearty round of applause for a wonderful afternoon of music.
